Barefoot running is becoming more popular. It is hard to understand why when so many barefoot runners are reporting injuries. There are lots of posts and blogs on barefoot running and everyone has an opinion on barefoot running. There is plenty on the running forums about this. There is also some research on barefoot running, but none of that shows that barefoot running is actually better than running in shoes. All it showed was that barefoot running was different to running shoes. The are anti- running barefoot websites. Barefoot runners make lots of claims that there are less running injuries in those that run barefoot, but there is no evidence to support that and there appears to be an epidemic of stress fractures in barefoot runners. The barefoot running community are quite fanatical about what they do and like to attack anyone who criticises them and not address issues that get raised: See this: Some Questions for the Barefoot Running Community). The media are also good at misreporting research on barefoot running. There are even claims that barefoot running makes you blind and that barefoot runners have attention seeking personality disorders! There are even barefoot running shoes, which sounds odd! ‘Born to Run‘ is a popular book on barefoot running, but it contains a lot of fiction that people fall for.
